The monthly photojournalism magazine DAYS JAPAN was launched in March 2004
iIn response to the burgeoning demand for quality reporting from the world’s many
war fronts and conflicts that claim so many lives today, we launched the monthly
photojournalism magazine DAYS JAPAN. The world-class photographers who contributed
to our publication do their work at great peril, many even risking their lives
for a shot. Regardless of how However the photos are taken, DAYS JAPAN we aims
to tell the truth from the perspective of victimized civilians and not of those
exercising authority through military or other power.
DAYS JAPAN invited photographers and journalists worldwide to participate in the
2nd DAYS JAPAN International Photojournalism Awards in 2006. Many distinguished
works were submitted distributed from around the globe world, and we would like
to thank all those who ssubmittedent in entries.
It was the first world-class photojournalism award in Japan.
We are now accepting entries for the 3rd DAYS JAPAN International Photojournalism
Awards contest to be held in 2007 contest. |

Any photographer may apply, regardless of age, occupation,
gender or nationality. |
Due Date |
All works must be sent by postal delivery and arrive by
January 15, 2007. Please note that all works should be declared as having “no
commercial value” if sent from overseas so as to avoid complications with customs
offices. |

Method of Judging
& How to be judged: |
The eEditorial departmentsk of DAYS JAPAN will conduct the
primary auditing. Selected candidates will be eligible forreceive final review
for the prizes. After that, Pparticipants of the DAYS JAPAN 3rdrd Anniversary
Meeting inon March 2007 will then select Reader’s’ Prizes among those works chosen
for final review.

Application Rules |
Photographs must have been taken in the two- year periods
between January 2005 and December 2006. Submitted works may be a single photo,
photo- essays or portfolios. Please make sure that all works include a short biography
of the photographer and that the application form includesing: the title of work;,
captions (maximum 50 words per caption);, location;, date of shooting;, whether
the originals were shot on films or taken by digital camera, and if taken by digital
camera, include the file size of digital data;, along with in addition to the
the photographer’s name, address and telephone number. |
Judging Criteriament |
Works will be judged as a whole, regardless of submission
as aa single photo, photo- essays or portfolio.
Number of Photos: Participants can submit under multiple themes as long as the
total number of photos is remains limited to 15. Entries will automatically be
invalidated if the number of photos exceedsed 15. |
Print Dimensions |
The minimum print size is 20 cm x 25 cm (8 in. x 10 in.)
and maximum is 30 cm x 40 cm (12 in. x 16 in.). Photographs pasted onto panels
will not be accepted. Prints, digital files and duplicated color transparenciesy
will be accepted. Both color and black and white will be accepted. Original color
transparenciesy and negatives are not acceptable. Both color and black and white

Digital Data
Requirements |
No retouching, compositing or other alterations (except
for dodging, burning in, and cropping) isare allowed. File data should be numbered
serially (numbering of single photographs should be A, B, C…, and the numbering
of a series of photographs should be 1-1, as number 1 of series 1, and 1-2 as
number 2 of series 1, 2-1 as number 1 of series 2, and 2-2 as number 2 of series
2, etc.…). File data should be and copied onto one CD-ROM per participant. Please
bemake sure to write the full name of the applicant on the CD surface.
File type: JPEG only (Mac users should have the .jpg extension onto all data)
Resolution: 300 dpi (Winners may later be asked to resubmit at 350 dpi)
Maximum file size: 3000 pixels x 2400 pixels, 35 cm x 22 cm, 3-4 mega bytes
File mode: RGB or Greyscale
Compression level: 8-9 |
